Each trail is designed to explore a different aspect of Algonquin and each has a Trail Guide booklet. Trail ,lots of contrasting paark and well marked. The map at the trailhead was nothing but an abstract squiggle at that point.
With 3 to 4 days you could certainly hike to Silver Peak and back, which is the highlight of the park’s backcountry. If you are travelling during peak seasons it is recommend that you book in advance. Another great post filled with beautiful nature images. Mizzy Lake is the exception in that it take 4 or 5 hours to complete. Lucky to see a moose at Head lake on the 2nd night. Whiskey Rapids Trail is located at km 7.
We settled on Loop 1 breaking it into three days with stops at Maggie and Ramona Lakes. Hoping to go back one day to do the other two loops.

But you mention the smell of the forest after the rain…… it is a wonderful scent that just makes you want to breathe deeply. I do agree with TweedWolfScream though, Algonquin is best explored by canoe but that’s not to say backpackiing you can’t enjoy a multi-day backpacking trip too.

Backkpacking 35km the longer prk is more aggressive and you will need to put a 13km day before reaching the campsites on Head Lake.
