This made watching him try to cultivate a relationship with Savi really fascinating to see. Somehow Meljean Brook manages to pull it off. She retains a solid knowing of her self worth and for that I had respect. This was not an easy read, I had to slow myself down to make sure that I didn’t miss important details but it was well worth the effort.
At first, she sees Hugh as an opportunity to garner another soul for her master, but she quickly becomes taken with the young knight. But Hugh never lied—and only moments before she had been certain he would kill her.
I like that the vampires aren’t at the top of the food chain, that they know that both demons and nosferatu can kick their ass it just makes them more And she sure has one heck of an imagination!

They are strong but loving. But perhaps broom little absurdity is shocking enough to break the bonds of her bargain, save the abducted college students and maybe even close the Gates from Hell to Earth for five hundred years.

Apart from the core 4 I haven’t really engaged with any of the other characters so I’m interested while at the same time slightly dreading the next instalments of this series. It was frustrating for me. But his wavering kept her from what would likely have been an unsettling self-analysis, and relief slipped under annoyance. This is a very character-driven book.
And not only did I understand what was happening, I was eager to turn the page to see what would happen next. But the story picked up quite a bit finally towards the end and I enjoyed it enough to rate it 3 stars instead of 2.
A push to bring vampires into the Guardian fold. The author manages the romantic and plot elements in a way that increases tension and yet provides a satisfying resolution.
She had a set mind for positive or negative and it worked. Ultimately, she must choose between saving Hugh or her own soul — a tough call for anyone, much less someone so jaded by centuries of service and torture. When curiosity propels her into the arms of Colin after his sojourn to Chaos, she soon learns a much needed lesson in the wariness of strangers, especially of the supernatural sort.
She’s a woman who cuts herself off from any relationship with a rapier wit and excessive cruelty dwmon that one day she may be asked to lead them into temptation.
